BRASS

Choose BRASS™ when the goals are to:

BRASS optimizes the management station platform by providing full SNMP functionality, management application extensibility, SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 support, and simplified security configuration. BRASS allows for efficient memory usage when there are multiple management applications.

Features

Functionality: BRASS builds and sends SNMP get, getnext, getbulk, and set requests, and parses incoming SNMP responses, traps, and inform requests.

Extensibility: SNMP-based management applications can be added without requiring the developer to understand the details of SNMP.

SNMP Version Support: BRASS supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 simultaneously.

Simplified Security Configuration: Security parameters are configured on a management station containing multiple management applications which all share the same security parameter datastore. (A single snmpEngineID is shared by all applications.)

Efficient Memory Usage: By allowing multiple applications to use a single SNMP stack, BRASS reduces the run-time memory usage.

Packaging

BRASS is available as a source code product or binaries. Source code products are ideal for developers who want to assure long term viability of their project, or to customize SNMP operations. Binary products are useful when out-of-the-box SNMP operations need to be integrated with your customized management applications.

BRASS Source includes the BRASS Server source code for Management Mulitiplexer and Configuration Datastore and the Management Application Development Kit. The SNMP libraries, utilities, and MIB tools are included as source, as well as the BRASS libraries. Extensive BRASS API documentation is also included.

Add Management Through Firewalls

Management through firewalls is also available using the optional Distributed SNMP Security Pack, DSSP Remote Forwarder, and/or the DSSP Internet Management Appliance-RF.
