Las Vegas, NV, May 8, 2000 - SNMP Research announces the introduction of the PolicyPro family of tools. The Simple PolicyPro and the CIAgent PolicyPro applications are the two initial members of an expanding family of SNMP-based tools, which afford administrators the power, speed, and consistency of policy-based management.
The Simple PolicyPro application enables administrators to manage SNMP-based management. The administrator can define configurations and automatically distribute them to agents located throughout the network. For example, the Simple PolicyPro can be used to update the configuration and passwords in all routers in the backbone of an ISP or an enterprise when members of the Internet management staff are hired or leave.
With the Simple PolicyPro, various groups of users can be granted different levels of access rights. For example, operations shift supervisors may be granted higher levels of privileges than operators or help desk attendants.
The Simple PolicyPro can also manage event overload by configuring agents to send only the notifications (traps and notifications) that are of interest, thereby filtering unwanted notifications via source-side suppression of event notifications.
These administrative functions can be performed rapidly, easily, and consistently through the use of the policy-based features of the Simple PolicyPro. This approach is far superior to hand editing the configuration of each system one-by-one or to repeating point-and-click operations for multiple systems.
The CIAgent PolicyPro is the second member of the PolicyPro family of tools being announced. The CIAgent PolicyPro application is used to manage not only the network, but the systems connected to the network, the applications that run on those systems, and the services provided by the applications.
CIAgent PolicyPro presents a simple, user-friendly interface for configuring multiple CIAgents. CIAgent, a secure SNMP agent, allows the user to monitor the health of systems and applications. The administrator can configure one or many agents, as well as distribute existing configurations to multiple agents located throughout the network.
EnterPol implements both the Simple PolicyPro and the CIAgent PolicyPro. EnterPol is a policy-based management station that is designed to take full advantage of SNMPv3, including commercial grade security and ease of administration. This product provides seamless management of networks, systems, applications, and services. EnterPol also continues to support SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c for use in multi-lingual environments.
The Simple PolicyPro and the CIAgent PolicyPro are also members of the SecureIntelligence product family. SecureIntelligence is a suite of products designed to manage networks, systems, and applications. By combining the Internet Standard Management Framework, the security features of SNMPv3, and the ease of a Web interface, this Java-enabled management software suite provides secure, standards-based monitoring and control. SecureIntelligence is composed of two product families: CIAgent and EnterPol.
