VERITAS Software selects SNMP Research's CIAgent for integration
with VERITAS NerveCenter 3.7

Knoxville, TN, June 1, 2000 - SNMP Research announced today that VERITAS® Software has selected SNMP Research's CIAgent for integration with its release of VERITAS NerveCenterTM 3.7. CIAgent, a member of the SecureIntelligence product family, is an intelligent, secure SNMP agent that implements an easy-to-use Web interface. Using standards-based MIBs, CIAgent monitors and controls mission-critical systems, applications, and services. CIAgent delivers security via SNMPv3, modular extensibility via the EMANATE® agent, and supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3.

"VERITAS Software selected SNMP Research's CIAgent for integration with our systems and applications monitoring based on its acceptance by the market as one of the best and most flexible SNMPv3 agents," said Brett P. Cooper, senior project manager for VERITAS NerveCenter, VERITAS Software. "VERITAS Software also chose CIAgent because of the award-winning technology found in the SNMP Research EMANATE product."

VERITAS NerveCenter 3.7 is a rules-based event management application designed to ensure high levels of network and application availability. VERITAS NerveCenter uses CIAgent to monitor and control mission critical assets, such as host resources, critical systems and applications, log files, and network services.

"CIAgent is made to work with intelligent management stations like NerveCenter, and we are pleased that VERITAS Software has the vision to combine these technologies to deliver real-world solutions to their customers," said Jeff Case, CTO for SNMP Research.

CIAgent provides an "early warning" system for detecting problems, issuing commands, and notifying operations personnel. CIAgent helps detect, analyze, and proactively resolve problems with mission-critical systems before customers and users notice a service outage. CIAgent can also help decrease the load on centralized managers by reducing the amount of polling, scheduling operations, and suppressing unwanted notifications at the source.

"VERITAS Software is happy to be working with SNMP Research. By incorporating support for CIAgent with SNMPv3 into our forthcoming release of VERITAS NerveCenter 3.7 later this year, both companies are providing meaningful solutions to customers' enterprise management issues," said Cooper.

"In addition, we are working with Southernview Technologies, an Enterprise Value-Added Reseller, to provide proven NerveCenter solutions utilizing CIAgent from SNMP Research. Specifically, VERITAS Software plans to ship behavior models with VERITAS NerveCenter 3.7 later this year that exploit the management capabilities of CIAgent for systems and applications monitoring," said Cooper.

Southernview Technologies deploys the combination of VERITAS NerveCenter and SNMP Research's CIAgent in many of its customer enterprise environments to enable true proactive management of the network devices, servers, and applications running. VERITAS NerveCenter is an intelligent manager that allows strict management policies to be defined and enforced for the enterprise. CIAgent is an intelligent agent that enables those policies to be enforced on a server by providing visibility into its resources and critical applications.

"We are excited about the forthcoming release of VERITAS NerveCenter with SNMPv3 support," said Charles Hebert, President of Southernview Technologies, Inc. "This will allow us to provide our customers with even greater security and functionality with this combination of tools."

Southernview has developed several VERITAS NerveCenter behavior models for use with CIAgent to provide server management using SNMPv3. These models will be shipping at no charge as part of the VERITAS NerveCenter 3.7 product release.
