DR-Web Manager Announced

Atlanta, Georgia, October 8, 1997 - SNMP Research International, Inc. announces the next step in web-based management of networks, systems, and applications. DR-Web Manager takes advantage of today's large installed base of SNMP-based management information combined with popular Web-based presentation technology through support of a clean, well-defined interface.

From any popular web browser, SNMP management information may be requested from any available SNMP agent by making an HTTP request directed toward the HTTP server integrated into DR-Web Manager. This enables the web browsers to access SNMP-based management information within available SNMP agents without modifications to either the web browsers or the SNMP agents. DR-Web Manager maximizes current investments in both SNMP agents already installed in the network and Web technology.

Dr. Jeff Case, founder of SNMP Research says, "Web technology offers a promising approach for pulling disparate management tools together under a universal, user-friendly interface. But if you don't do it right, you could be wasting time and money. DR-Web Manager makes doing it right a lot easier."

Only one DR-Web Manager is required per location because multiple web browsers are allowed to use its services simultaneously.

DR-Web Manager eases the development task as well. Information is immediately displayed using default formats until the developer chooses to modify the page. All web development tools available to customize a web page may be used to customize the management page. In addition, custom pages allow developers to use any HTML constructs like Java, Tcl, GIF images, meaningful colors, or links to present the information in a meaningful format.

The DR-Web family currently has two members. DR-Web Manager requires no changes to the basic SNMP-based management strategy because it allows multiple web browsers to access management information from many SNMP agents. The other member of the family, DR-Web Agent provides web-based device management. DR-Web Agent, introduced about a year ago, , integrates a Web server with the SNMP agent so that one or more web browsers may access management information within the managed device which is running DR-Web Agent.

In DR-Web Manager, custom HTML pages and Java scripts may display information from one SNMP-managed device, or SNMP-based information from many SNMP agents may be displayed on a single page in order to provide a concise view of information distributed throughout the network.

DR-Web Manager is available to developers, system integrators, or managers of networks in either source or binary form starting at \$1,000 per copy.

About SNMP Research International, Inc.:
